"Running for the Children of Tohoku" Initiative Launched by Mitsui USA New York

Mitsui USA's voluntary running team in New York, Mitsui Road Runners (MRR), is aiding the children of Tohoku. MRR, employees and family members, represent "Running for the Children of Tohoku" when they run at New York Road Runners races (http://www.nyrr.org). Running for Tohoku by MRR was launched in 2015 at the Japan Run at Japan Day@Central Park; and culminated at the New York City Marathon.

When MRR represent the children of Tohoku, The Mitsui USA Foundation, under its Matching Volunteers program, makes a $25 donation per runner, per race to support JAANY (Japanese American Association of New York) efforts to help people in Tohoku who suffered from the disasters of March 11, 2011.

For 2015, Mitsui USA Foundation made a Matching Volunteers donation to JAANY of: $2,725 in support of 17 MRR racers and 33 "cheerers," employees and family, who dotted the NYC Marathon route.

Mitsui USA New York will continue "Running for the Children of Tohoku" in 2016, and beyond, and hopes other Japanese companies will consider this initiative, too.
