The Community Affairs Committee established the U.S. Educators Program in response to concerns regarding the education of Japanese expatriate children living in the New York metropolitan area.  The goals of the program since its inception in 1989 have been twofold: to improve and encourage communication between Japanese students and American educators, and to demonstrate gratitude to the many educators who strive to ensure that expatriate students acculturate and thrive in their American surroundings.  Each summer, the program invites educators from New York metropolitan tri-state area schools that have a significant enrollment of Japanese students for a 2-week visit to Japan.  Program participants meet with their Japanese counterparts and gain first-hand exposure to Japan's education system.

Each fall, Japanese and American leaders join together to honor individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the advancement of the U.S.-Japan relationship. Proceeds from the dinner support the Chamber's philanthropic activities via the J.C.C. FUND.  Recently, the 2006 22nd Annual Dinner honored former New York Mets Manager Bobby Valentine, and Astronaut Soichi Noguchi.

In 1992, the first Charity Golf Tournament was held as a way for the Chamber to further its commitment to enhancing the New York metropolitan community’s various educational, cultural, and research organizations. Proceeds from each year’s tournament benefit an institution that provides something of value in these categories, fulfilling JCCI’s goals of enriching the experience of Japanese expatriate families living in the tri-state area.  Past recipients of tournament proceeds have included The Japanese Educational Institute of New York, The International Center in New York, and the C.V. Starr East Asian Library at Columbia University.
